Research Proposal
Working Title: Humankind Connecting with Extraterrestrial Life, What’s Next?
Topic
I
will discuss the current status of acknowledging the extraterrestrial life that
we have on hand. This paper will cover the bigger picture of government’s
coverups or debunk on the cosmic secret, which tightly related to the whole
humankind’s fate and our civilization’s life expectancy.
Research Question
What
is the current status of extraterrestrial studies? Why did the government find it
is necessary to coverups or debunk the secrets of Aliens? How would they conclude
with the fate of humankind after successfully contacting extraterrestrial
life?
Theoretical Frame
In
the study, Contact with Alien Civilizations, Our Hopes and Fears about
Encountering Extraterrestrials, done by Michael Michaud, it hypothesizes
that contacting with an extraterrestrial civilization in the cosmos would be
equivalent to finding a needle in a haystack of 35 times the size of Earth.
Yet, we have not fully explored the whole haystack within the thousand years of
human civilization. The study also implies that on those unknown alien
civilizations, we could venture an assumption that interstellar flight would be
possible to probe around other civilizations. Thus, the current judgment of whether
actively contacting with extraterrestrials life would not be prudent. From a personal perspective, the coverups of the government would make sense, that to
avoid any unintentional signals or radio by the public that could be detected
by a superior civilization.
In the study, it
also talks about due to the limitation of the resources of our planet Earth, it
would be impossible for us to mimic interstellar flight as the UFO did on our
earth. The energy consumption would be enormous that would use up to billions
of years of Earth resources to complete a light-year interstellar travel. With
the understanding of such depletion of resources, based on the basic scientific
knowledge, it would be a doubt that would a civilization taking risks of
resources shortage, before the whole civilization went to self-destruction, be
bellicose on other civilization? A rashly visit another extraterrestrials
civilization would potentially lead to a self-annihilation behavior to its own
species. But with such a statement being said, we can assume the aliens reported from
the witnesses on documents must have sufficient resources on their planet and
the most advanced technologies with the least resource losses. And those we met or
known from documents, could be considered as bellicose to humankind if they
really monitored us and visited us.
Research and Plan
In
the study, What Scientists Can Learn from Alien Hunters, done by Sarah
Scoles, it discusses the concept of “boundary-work”, which probably hindered our
human race to further explore the extraterrestrials life and culture due to the
defenses of science’s honor and profession’s standards by those “mainstream”
scientists and governors. In another study, Space, the Final Frontier: In
the Scientific Pursuit of Extraterrestrial Life Away from Earth, greatly
mentions the discovery of the first idea of alien beings to the state of current
exploration of the field. In a large amount, it uses scientific equations, Drake
Equation, to calculate the possible planets that support life, and seek the
possibility of sending detectable radio signals into outer space. One source
discusses the indifferent attitude of governments and ufologists on covering
up and disinforming the field of studies, while the other source greatly illustrates
the possibilities of human scientists can do for the Earth. It was interesting
when under the restriction and mockery on researching extraterrestrials intelligence,
scientists still focusing on the problem of human and alien life expectancy.
