Research Blog #8 - Case

 



This is an image of plaques that were made of gold-coated aluminum which carried outlines of a human male and female. These two plaques were carried on satellites that tried to communicate with other intelligent life in the universe. The satellites also carried the drawn structure of Hydrogen so that only intelligent life forms can comprehend the message and understand we as human beings trying to be friendly. 

Elani indicates that this way has not yet given a solid amount of evidence that can change the way people see space. Nor is there any answer to the mystery of whether we are alone in the universe or not. However, it doesn’t mean that it would be a waste to understand what kinds of changes can be seen in the world itself, if some way or another, it is proven that humans are not the only ones living in the Universe.

Whatever the reason, scientists, in fact, are looking forward to exploring whether there is life outside our planet Earth. But under governmental pressure and the science reputation (boundary work), the progress did not go well. Imagine if scientists from different fields collaborate on the same topics decades ago, seeking the truth of the universe, what would there be any differences nowadays? I would say yes.

 The main idea of the topic, "what impact does UFO have on our society" hasn't changed. At first, my opinion only remain at the level of government's pressure on the public, but it evolves to some perspectives such as the existence of extraterrestrials lead the assumption of more high civilizations outside the solar system (https://www.wired.com/story/what-scientists-can-learn-from-alien-hunters/) and some potential cultural impact of UFOs contact.  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potential_cultural_impact_of_extraterrestrial_contact).  Key terms like "UFO culture" and "Impact of UFO Technology" I put into google comes out some websites like "what happens next if we find proof of space aliens". But all the articles were talking about due to the restriction of current technology on finding the exact proof on extraterrestrials, there are no assumptions of the next step of human beings. Research Blog #7: Theoretical Frame

  My theoretical frame is based on the article, "What Can Scientists Learn from Alien Hunters". It organizes the fields of studies where astrobiologists and astronomers were on, based on their methods of systematic experimentation. The article directly points out the reason for the boundary work was because of their various approaches to scientific researches on extraterrestrials life topics. By analyzing their methods on scientific studies and looking deep at some political influences, I could conclude with how does the boundary-work affects the study progress on extraterrestrial life for over decades.
